Chapter 15: Energy Methods

"The concepts of energy and conservation of energy originated in large part from the study of classical mechanics. A simple transformation of Newton's second law results in an equation that motivates the definitions of work, kinetic energy (energy due to an object's motion), and potential energy (energy due to an object's potions). This equation can greatly simplify the solution of problems involving certain forces that depend on an object's position, including gravitational forces and forces exerted by springs."
