Chapter 4: Static Body Stresses
"Once the external loads applied to a member have been determined (see Chapter 2), the next item of interest is often the resulting stresses. This chapter is concerned with body stresses, existing within the member as a whole, as distinguished from surface or contact stresses in localize regions where external loads are applied. This chapter is also concerned with stresses resulting from essentially static loading, as opposed to stresses caused by impact or fatigue loading. (Impact, fatigue, and surface stresses are considered in Chapters 7, 8, and 9, respectively.)"
